Railway line reaches Rowghat as Taroki section is completed

Indian Railways has extended its network to the remote Rowghat area of Chhattisgarh with the completion of the final Taroki-Rowghat section of the Dallirajhara-Rowghat new line project. The development marks a significant step in taking rail connectivity deeper into south Chhattisgarh.

The 17.5-km Taroki-Rowghat section forms part of the 95-km Dallirajhara-Rowghat new railway line. It has been constructed as a single-line, electrified broad-gauge stretch. The project falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Raipur Division of the South East Central Railway zone.

A Commissioner of Railway Safety inspection and speed trial were carried out on the section on September 22, a standard step before a new railway section is commissioned. The inspection covered the track, bridges and culverts, electrification, signalling and other safety arrangements. The operational capacity and safety standards of the section were also tested during the prescribed exercise.

Passenger trains currently run between Dallirajhara and Taroki. With the Taroki-Rowghat section now complete, the network is set to extend further towards Rowghat, and train services are expected to begin soon. Once commissioned, operations on the stretch are expected to offer more convenient transport options for people in the surrounding remote areas.

The new connectivity is expected to improve links between remote parts of south Chhattisgarh and major centres such as Raipur and Bhilai. For local residents, easier rail travel could simplify access to education, healthcare, employment and trade, with Bhilai being an important educational and industrial hub in the state. The line is also expected to help move agricultural produce and local commercial goods, connecting rural areas to the wider railway network.

The Dallirajhara-Rowghat line has an industrial role as well. According to the Ministry of Railways, it will facilitate the transportation of iron ore to the Bhilai Steel Plant, supporting the steel industry. The improved rail network is further expected to encourage tourism, investment and other economic activity in the region, contributing to the development of remote areas of south Chhattisgarh.
