Rupert Grint to Return as Ron Weasley in Broadway's 'Cursed Child'

Rupert Grint will reprise Ron Weasley in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' on Broadway in 2027.

Rupert Grint is set to reprise his role as Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. The actor, who played the character in all eight Harry Potter films, will join the cast at the Lyric Theatre for a limited run from February 2 to May 30, 2027.

Grint will portray the adult Ron in the play, which follows the next generation of Hogwarts students. In a statement, he expressed excitement about returning to the role, noting that he has been connected to Ron since he was 11 years old. He described the experience as "full-circle" and said stepping back into Ron's shoes now that both he and the character are fathers feels both familiar and new.

This marks the second time an original film star has joined the stage production. Tom Felton previously appeared as an older Draco Malfoy. Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender called Grint's return a "powerful bridge" between the original story and the themes of family, legacy, and time that the play explores. They highlighted his growth as an actor since the films, including stage work on Broadway and the West End.

The announcement comes as the upcoming Harry Potter television series remains in development. That show is set to air on HBO and stream on HBO Max, with Dominic McLaughlin cast as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The cast also includes Nick Frost, John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, and Janet McTeer.
