Russia Demands Answers From US on Alleged Role in Ukraine Strikes
Russia has formally asked the US to explain its alleged role in Ukrainian strikes, including intelligence sharing.
Moscow has formally questioned Washington over its alleged involvement in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, according to Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In comments aired on state television, Lavrov said Russia had submitted a list of queries to the US State Department, specifically seeking clarification on the supply of intelligence data.
Lavrov accused the United States of being "far more deeply involved" in organizing strikes against civilian targets inside Russia than it has publicly acknowledged. He said Moscow was now awaiting an official response from the American side. There was no immediate comment from Washington.
The remarks come amid a broader freeze in diplomatic contact between the two nations. Lavrov noted that no peace talks on Ukraine have occurred since February, when the US shifted its focus to a conflict with Iran and suspended its mediation efforts between Moscow and Kyiv.
Recalling a summit with President Donald Trump a year ago, Lavrov quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as telling Trump that Moscow was ready to accept US peace proposals in the form they were presented. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has disputed that account, saying no agreement was reached at the time and that the war would have ended if one had been.
Lavrov indicated that Putin remains open to receiving Trump's envoys again, but questioned what proposals they might bring. He also warned that Russia would intensify its efforts to disrupt Western military supplies to Ukraine, vowing to use "much tougher" methods to dismantle the logistical support fueling Kyiv's war effort.
Ukraine, now in the fifth year of the conflict, continues to rely on Western military aid, though it faces chronic shortages in certain areas, particularly air-defense interceptors needed to counter Russian missile attacks.
