Kremlin Vows Response to Hungary's Expulsion of Russian Diplomats

The Kremlin has said it will deliver an appropriate response to Hungary's decision to expel Russian diplomats, warning that the move will damage the broader relationship between the two countries.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the expulsion "will not go unanswered" and that it would have "negative consequences for the entirety of our bilateral relations." He added that Moscow remained open to further engagement and did not wish to harm the accumulated experience and achievements in Russian-Hungarian ties.
The remarks follow Hungary's announcement on Tuesday that it had ordered ten Russian diplomats to leave the country over activities deemed unacceptable. The decision was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán, who did not specify the nature of the alleged activities or the deadline for departure.
The expulsions come months after Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar took office on a platform of tackling corruption and dismantling the power structures left by his predecessor, Viktor Orbán.
