Russia pounds Odesa in overnight drone barrage, hits port and energy sites
Russia launched a massive overnight drone strike on Odesa, targeting civilian, energy and port infrastructure and injuring one person.
Russian forces carried out a massive overnight strike on the Black Sea port city of Odesa and its surrounding areas, Ukrainian local authorities said on Tuesday. The attack, which unfolded into the early hours, involved multiple types of unmanned aerial vehicles and targeted civilian, energy, and port infrastructure, according to the State Emergency Service.
One person was reported injured in the assault. Odesa regional Governor Oleh Kiper said the strike also hit a ferry crossing located on the border with Romania, adding to the breadth of the attack.
Emergency crews were deployed across the city to battle fires sparked by the barrage. Footage from the scene showed firefighters working through the night to extinguish blazes at multiple locations, with flames visible amid the response efforts.
The attack marks another escalation in Russia's campaign against Ukraine's southern port infrastructure, which has been repeatedly targeted in recent months. The full extent of the damage was still being assessed as emergency services continued their operations.
