Russian Overnight Strikes Kill Four Across Ukraine, Hit Kyiv Data Center
Overnight Russian strikes killed four people in Ukraine and damaged a Kyiv data center, as both sides continued long-range attacks with no peace deal in sight.
Russian airstrikes overnight killed at least four people across Ukraine and struck a data center in the capital, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, as Moscow and Kyiv continued to trade long-range attacks with no peace agreement in view.
Three people died in the Zaporizhzhia region and a man was killed in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said in a post on X. He added that civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities and residential buildings, came under attack in at least eight regions.
According to Zelenskyy, the data center in Kyiv was hit twice in the morning. Three people were injured in the first strike, among them two children, he said, without giving further details.
Russia's Defense Ministry said its drones struck a data center operated by Vodafone, describing the company as one of the largest providers of mobile services and high-speed internet to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was the second attack on a data center in the capital in three days, the ministry said.
The ministry also said its forces struck two logistics centers in the Kyiv and Odesa regions and a dry cargo ship bound for the Odesa port.
Odesa Region Governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram that a "massive" overnight strike damaged a medical facility, a hotel, a shop and a warehouse used for storing grain crops, among other sites.
In its account of the same overnight period, Russia's Defense Ministry said its air-defense systems downed 96 Ukrainian drones between 8 p.m. Moscow time and 8 a.m., over regions bordering Ukraine, the annexed Crimean peninsula and the Black Sea. Ukraine's air forces said Russia launched 170 drones overnight, beginning at 6 p.m.
The exchange of strikes comes as Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine moves deeper into its fifth year. The United States has pressed both sides to agree to a pause on attacks targeting each other's energy assets, but neither has accepted.
