Russia hits Kyiv petrol station and Bunge plant in Dnipro, killing two
Russian strikes hit a Kyiv petrol station and a Bunge sunflower oil facility in Dnipro, killing two and injuring several others.
Russian forces struck a petrol station in Kyiv and an international agribusiness facility operated by Bunge in the southeastern city of Dnipro, Ukrainian authorities said, as Moscow intensified its campaign against logistics and economic targets.
The attack on the Ukrnafta petrol station in the capital appeared to be the first jet-powered drone strike on such a facility in Kyiv. It followed roughly 300 attacks on petrol stations in or near Ukraine's frontline regions in recent months. Four people were injured, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
"There is no military objective in such strikes. This is terror and intimidation of the civilian population," said Ukrnafta CEO Bohdan Kukura.
In Dnipro, two people were killed in the strike on the Bunge sunflower oil facility, one of Ukraine's five largest food plants, with a processing capacity of 1,600 tons of oilseeds per day. Five others were wounded, a local official said. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described it as the second attack on a U.S.-owned business in several weeks, writing that it was "no coincidence, but part of Moscow's systematic terror campaign against American businesses and economic interests."
In the northeastern city of Sumy, officials said a jet-powered drone struck a shopping centre, a day after a similar attack there killed two people and wounded 20.
Russia has escalated its air campaign in recent weeks, launching ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones at warehouses, food suppliers and retail chains. Kyiv has struggled to repel the attacks amid a shortage of air defence systems.
The two sides have traded escalating strikes on logistics and other economic targets. Ukraine has attacked Russia's largest online retailers, energy and fuel logistics in Moscow-occupied regions, and oil refineries deep inside Russia. Russia has stepped up strikes on Ukrainian ports, killing four people and injuring 19 in the southern city of Mykolaiv overnight, regional officials said.
