Russia strikes Kyivstar HQ and Vodafone Ukraine data centre in fresh bombardment
Russian strikes hit Kyivstar's headquarters and a Vodafone Ukraine data centre, part of a week-long campaign against Ukrainian communications infrastructure.
Russian forces struck the headquarters of Kyivstar, Ukraine's largest mobile operator, in Kyiv on Sunday, the company said. There were no casualties in the attack on the head office, according to Kyivstar.
Separately, Russia's defence ministry said it had hit a data centre belonging to Vodafone Ukraine, the country's second-largest mobile network. Vodafone Ukraine did not respond to a request for comment.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a data centre in Kyiv was struck twice on Sunday morning, wounding two children and one adult.
The strikes are part of a broader Russian campaign against Ukrainian data centres and communications infrastructure. Over the past week, Moscow has also targeted facilities belonging to Ukrainian internet providers, causing service outages for about 100,000 households in Kyiv and the surrounding region, Ukraine's digital ministry said.
"Russia has targeted major Ukrainian data centres, seeking to disrupt the flow of information," Ukraine's foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, wrote on X on Wednesday. "Rapid alerts about missile and drone threats are essential - they save lives."
