Russia claims new gains in Zaporozhye as Ukraine hits deep targets
Russia says it took a Zaporozhye settlement; Ukraine reports long-range strikes on a space center and airfield.
Russia said on Saturday that its forces had captured a settlement in the Zaporozhye region, while Ukraine reported carrying out long-range strikes on military targets inside Russia.
The Russian Defense Ministry, in its daily operational update, said its troops had taken control of the settlement. Over the previous 24 hours, Russian forces also targeted Ukrainian logistics hubs, fuel and energy infrastructure, transport routes, and workshops assembling long-range drones and uncrewed surface vessels, the ministry added.
According to the same report, Russian strikes hit 147 temporary deployment sites used by Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries across multiple areas. The ministry also said its forces continued to strike Ukrainian port infrastructure and vessels supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On the Ukrainian side, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported 233 combat engagements along the front lines in the past day, with Ukrainian units repelling Russian attacks in several directions. Ukrainian forces also struck Russian command posts, troop concentrations, artillery systems, and drone control points.
In a notable escalation, Ukraine said it attacked the Progress Rocket and Space Center in Russia's Samara Oblast and a military airfield in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. These strikes mark some of the deepest Ukrainian hits inside Russian territory in recent weeks.
