Russian drone strike sets gas station ablaze near Ukraine-Poland border crossing
A Russian drone set a gas station on fire near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk crossing with Poland as strikes pounded western Ukraine; officials say the border point remains intact.
Russian strikes hit western Ukraine in the early hours of Sunday, with a drone setting a gas station on fire close to the Yahodyn-Dorohusk border crossing with Poland, according to Ukraine's foreign minister and a local customs spokesperson.
No casualties were reported. Valentyna Chernysh, a spokesperson for the Volyn Customs Office, said the Yahodyn crossing itself was intact and that no one was harmed.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha framed the strike as a direct threat to Ukraine's western neighbours. "This is Putin's terror 'knocking' directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. Russian barbarians are at your gate, dear partners," he wrote on X.
The crossing is one of the main routes used to move Western military and humanitarian aid into Ukraine, giving the site added significance beyond its immediate damage.
Video from the area showed fires and thick smoke, firefighters working to extinguish a burning vehicle, emergency crews on the road and onlookers gathered as smoke rose in the background. Footage from the same location in daylight showed the scorched ground and a damaged roadway.
