Russian Missile Barrage Kills Six in Kyiv, Wounds Dozens
A Russian missile attack on Kyiv killed at least six and wounded 33, damaging homes, a hospital, and a school.
A Russian missile barrage overnight Thursday killed at least six people in Kyiv and wounded 33 others, according to Ukraine's Emergency Service. The attack sent explosions across the capital, and the air raid alert remained in effect into the early morning.
The strikes hit 12 locations in the Darnytskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Solomianskyi districts, damaging residential buildings, a medical facility, and an educational institution. In the Solomianskyi district, the top two floors of a nine-story apartment block were destroyed, and fires broke out on other floors. Emergency crews rescued people trapped in two residential buildings and a school shelter.
Russia has stepped up ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, aiming to deplete Ukraine's air defense stocks. Kyiv has limited systems capable of intercepting ballistic threats, and supplies of missiles for its U.S.-made Patriot systems remain chronically constrained. A U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot systems was later reversed.
Ukraine has responded by intensifying its own long-range strikes on Russian weapons depots and military targets deep inside Russian territory, seeking to weaken Moscow's ability to sustain attacks on Ukrainian cities.
