Overnight Russian Strikes Leave 10 Injured in Sumy, Ukraine
Russian overnight attacks in Sumy injured at least 10 people, damaging homes and vehicles, Ukraine's emergency service said.
At least 10 people were injured in a Russian overnight attack on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The strikes, reported on Monday, hit three separate locations across the city.
Local authorities confirmed that residential buildings, vehicles, and non-residential premises were damaged in the assault. Emergency crews were deployed to the affected areas, where firefighters worked through the night and into the morning to extinguish blazes and clear debris.
Video footage from the scene showed a private house engulfed in flames, a damaged multi-story building, and emergency workers sifting through rubble. Firefighters were also seen speaking with local residents as they continued their efforts to contain the damage.
The attack comes amid a sustained campaign of large-scale Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Analysts point to Ukraine's critical shortage of interceptor missiles for its U.S.-made Patriot systems, which are the only air defense assets in its arsenal capable of shooting down ballistic missiles.
In a separate development, Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory were also reported. A Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in the Tatarstan region killed 12 people and wounded 39 others, according to regional authorities.
