Russian Overnight Strikes on Kyiv Kill Two, End Brief Pause

Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv killed two and injured at least ten, ending a weekend pause as US envoys arrived for talks.

Two people were killed and at least ten others wounded when Russian drones and missiles struck Kyiv overnight on Tuesday, according to local authorities. The attack brought an end to a brief pause in strikes on the capital over the weekend.

The assault coincided with the arrival of US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in Kyiv for their first official visit, part of a renewed diplomatic push to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported damage and fires in at least five districts of the city. The Kyiv City Military Administration said civilian infrastructure was hit in at least 16 locations.

In the Holosiivskyi district, a 26-story non-residential building was struck, and a separate fire spread to a nearby non-residential structure. Rescuers saved one person during search operations and evacuated two residents from an apartment in a 16-story residential building.

In the Solomianskyi district, people were trapped in a five-story residential building. At least ten individuals were rescued there, the emergency service said. Fires were also reported in the Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts.
