Russian Strikes Injure Eight in Kyiv as Ukrainian Drones Hit Ozon Hub in Saratov

Russian air strikes injured eight people and sparked a fire in a nine-storey apartment building in Kyiv on Friday morning, city authorities said, as Moscow resumed attacks on the Ukrainian capital following a brief pause during a visit by U.S. envoys.

Footage from the scene showed servicemen working to extinguish the blaze at the residential block, where several windows had been blown out.

Russia had halted its near-constant air campaign against Kyiv for a short period this week while negotiators for U.S. President Donald Trump shuttled between Moscow and Kyiv in an effort to end the war, which the Kremlin began by invading Ukraine in 2022.

In Russia, Ukrainian drones damaged civilian infrastructure in the central Volga River city of Saratov, regional governor Roman Busargin said, adding that no casualties were reported.

Russian e-commerce company Ozon said a drone attack caused a fire at its logistics hub in Saratov. The strike adds to more than two dozen warehouses owned by Ozon and its top peer Wildberries that have been hit in recent weeks.

The Saratov region, frequently targeted by Ukrainian air strikes including an attack earlier this week, hosts a large oil refinery operated by state oil company Rosneft as well as other industrial and military facilities.

In Volgograd, south of Saratov and also on the Volga, a missile attack injured two people after hitting a residential building, local authorities said. Debris from the strike also damaged an industrial facility, though the authorities did not provide further details. The Volgograd oil refinery run by Lukoil, one of Russia's largest by processing capacity, is located on the city's outskirts.

The reports could not be independently verified. Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians.
