Russian drone strikes overnight injured five people in Kyiv and damaged civilian infrastructure in the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, as Ukrainian emergency crews worked through the early hours of Tuesday to extinguish fires and evacuate residents.
According to the city prosecutor's office, the attack on the capital left five people wounded. Across the Kyiv region, 34 sites were damaged over the past day, with impacts reported in the Bucha, Obukhiv, Brovary and Bila Tserkva districts.
In Zaporizhzhia, a strike destroyed a cafe through the force of its blast wave, while debris damaged a car wash and shattered windows in nearby residential buildings.
Footage released by Ukraine's emergency services showed firefighters responding in both cities, evacuating buildings and working to put out fires. In Kyiv, body-camera video captured debris-strewn ground, damaged residential buildings and the charred interior of a flat. In Zaporizhzhia, crews were seen battling a building fire amid damaged structures.
The strikes follow separate attacks on Zaporizhzhia on Monday, which hit apartment blocks, a university and a shopping mall, among other sites, and wounded five people.
The continuing daily attacks underscore the lack of significant progress in diplomatic efforts to end the fighting, more than four years after Russia invaded its neighbour.
