Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Accused Seeks to Plead Guilty, Court Adjourns Hearing
Accused in Saif Ali Khan stabbing case files plea to plead guilty; court seeks prosecution reply, next hearing September 11.
The Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence has moved a Mumbai court seeking to plead guilty in the case. Mohammad Shariful Islam, who has been in judicial custody since his arrest in January 2025, filed an application expressing his willingness to admit guilt and requested leniency, according to his lawyer Vipul Dushing.
The court has directed the prosecution to file its response and adjourned the matter to September 11 for further hearing.
Earlier this month, Additional Sessions Judge G P Deshmukh framed charges against Islam, formally paving the way for trial. The charges were brought under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including robbery accompanied by the use of a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt, and house trespass, along with sections of the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules.
Khan was repeatedly stabbed by an intruder inside his 12th-floor apartment in upscale Bandra on January 16, 2025. The 54-year-old actor underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged after five days of treatment. Islam was arrested two days after the incident.
