Family of Three Killed as Car Hits Container on Samruddhi Expressway
A couple and their three-year-old child died after their car crashed into a container on the Samruddhi Expressway; police suspect the driver fell asleep.
A man, his wife and their three-year-old child were killed when their car crashed into a moving container on the Samruddhi Expressway on Saturday, officials said.
The family was on its way from Nashik to Jalna in a Mahindra XUV when the vehicle rammed into the rear of the container near the Verul to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar stretch of the expressway.
The impact was severe. Images from the spot showed the car had slid under the truck, with its front end mangled, the bonnet destroyed and the windshield shattered.
The victims have been identified as Pratik Ramkisan Jagdale and his wife, Shreya Rajendra Pandey. The name of the three-year-old child has not been released.
Preliminary findings suggest that Jagdale, who was at the wheel, may have fallen asleep, causing the car to hit the container.
The crash triggered disruption on the expressway. A Quick Response Team reached the site after being alerted and recovered the bodies.
Daulatabad police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
