Sanjay Mishra mourns Mushtaq Khan, says veteran actor never got his due

Veteran actor Sanjay Mishra has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of his 'Welcome' co-star Mushtaq Khan, describing him as a talented performer who never received the recognition he deserved.

Khan died on Thursday. He had been admitted to Nanavati Hospital after developing health complications and was undergoing treatment when doctors diagnosed him with cancer. His condition worsened during the course of treatment, and he passed away.

Recalling their association, Mishra said the news had left him deeply saddened. He shared that there was a phase in his life when Khan took on the role of a guardian, offering guidance whenever he needed it. Mishra said he would turn to Khan for suggestions, and remembered him as both an excellent actor and a good human being.

"He did not get the recognition and credit he truly deserved," Mishra said, adding that Khan was a fine artist whose contribution to cinema went largely unacknowledged.

The two actors worked together in the comedy 'Welcome', and Mishra fondly recalled that Khan had once shown him around Dubai during the shoot.

Khan began his film career in 1980 with 'Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai', setting off a journey that spanned more than three decades. Over the years, he appeared in a wide range of Hindi films, including 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' and 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke'.

His comic turn in 'Welcome' remains among his most remembered performances, particularly the scene featuring the line "Meri ek taang nakli hai, main hockey ka bahut bada player hoon". His timing and effortless delivery made the character memorable for audiences.

Khan's funeral is scheduled to be held on Friday.
