Director Pa Ranjith's Sarpatta Parambarai Round 2 has been officially announced, with Arya unveiling a poster that hints at a prequel to the 2021 boxing drama.
The boxing ring is set to return to the screen, with director Pa Ranjith's 'Sarpatta Parambarai Round 2' now officially announced. Actor Arya shared the first poster for the project on Monday, marking a fresh update on a sequel that was first revealed in April 2023.
The poster features a boxing ring, and in his post Arya wrote, "The origin of Sarpatta Parambarai begins." He tagged Ranjith and actor Sayyeshaa in the post.
The announcement confirms Arya's return to the franchise. The makers have not yet disclosed the rest of the cast or the storyline.
The new poster suggests the film could be a prequel to the 2021 sports drama, tracing the beginnings of the boxing world introduced in the first instalment.
Ranjith is returning as director. He had earlier announced his first pan-India film, titled 'Vettuvam', along with a poster for that project.
The original 'Sarpatta Parambarai' was released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2021, when COVID-19 restrictions kept audiences away from theatres. Set in North Chennai, it centred on the rivalry between two boxing clans, Idiyappa Parambarai and Sarpatta Parambarai, while also exploring the region's boxing culture and the politics around the sport. Arya played the lead role, and the film drew praise from audiences and critics for its story, performances and its portrayal of the boxing community.
