Satheesan Condemns Rising Social Media Abuse, Flags Political Backing
Kerala CM V.D. Satheesan condemned vulgar social media abuse, alleging political backing for such campaigns, while speaking at a book release in Thalikulam.
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has spoken out against what he described as vulgar and excessive abuse on social media, stating that criticism of political leaders should not extend to personal attacks on their families.
Speaking at Thalikulam on Sunday after the release of Ee Neravum Kadannupokum, the eighth book by AICC secretary T.N. Prathapan, the Chief Minister said the problem had crossed acceptable limits. He pointed to the recent cruel abuse directed at a deceased journalist and noted that many posts are offensive enough to insult women.
Satheesan said there is nothing wrong with criticising political workers, but insisted that social media platforms should not descend to the level of insulting women and families. He also alleged that those running abusive campaigns online enjoy the backing of political parties.
The event, held near Prathapan's residence at Thalikulam, was presided over by Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar. District Collector Siva Surendran received the first copy of the book.
