Rescue operations at the site of a building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan area have officially concluded after a 24-hour effort. The incident has resulted in seven fatalities, while 12 individuals were successfully pulled from the debris.
The Delhi High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, expressing strong displeasure towards the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi University (DU). The court has ordered a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
In addition to the inquiry, the High Court has directed a comprehensive audit of Paying Guest (PG) accommodations operating in the Satya Niketan vicinity. This move aims to assess the structural safety and regulatory compliance of such facilities in the area.
Meanwhile, students have voiced their demands for accountability from the concerned officials. The tragedy has sparked questions regarding the enforcement of building safety norms and the oversight of residential facilities catering to students in the university belt.
