Saudi Crown Prince in Cairo for Talks on Gulf Security with el-Sissi

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, as the kingdom confronts a rising wave of missile and drone attacks from Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen and militias in Iraq.

El-Sissi received the crown prince at Cairo International Airport, where the two leaders walked a red carpet before proceeding to the presidency hall. Officials from both sides greeted the visiting delegation, and the presidential convoy later arrived at the presidential palace for the main round of discussions.

During the meeting, the two leaders affirmed that the security of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations is an integral part of Egypt's national security, according to a statement from the Egyptian president's office. Egypt strongly condemned any threats or attacks against the kingdom.

El-Sissi expressed Egypt's support for measures taken by Saudi Arabia to safeguard its security and stability, as well as for efforts to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

The talks also covered the importance of ensuring freedom and security of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Bab el-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea — waterways that carry a significant share of global energy and commercial traffic.

The visit underscores the close alignment between Cairo and Riyadh at a time of heightened regional tensions, with both sides presenting a united front on Gulf security and the need to keep vital sea lanes open.
