Sayani Gupta's debut short Aasmani set for 10-film festival tour
Sayani Gupta's directorial debut Aasmani has been selected for 10 film festivals across four countries, including stops in the US, Canada, Japan and India.
Actor Sayani Gupta's first film as director, the short Aasmani, is set for an extensive international run. The film has been selected for ten festivals spread across four countries over the next two months, with screenings planned in the United States, Canada, Japan and India.
Among the upcoming stops are the Washington DC South Asian Film Festival, the Tokyo International Short Film Festival, the India International Film Festival of Boston, the Chicago South Asian Film Festival and the Atlanta International Film Festival. In India, the film will compete in the Short Film Competition at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK). It was also part of the Indian competition at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival. The team says four more festival selections are expected to be announced.
Aasmani has already earned recognition at several events. It won the REMI Special Jury Award for Best Children/Family Film at the 59th WorldFest-Houston and the Best Short Film Audience Choice Award at the Indie Meme Film Festival in Austin, US. It also received the Best Children/Family Film honour at the Cannes Film Festival of the World.
The film revolves around the relationship between a spirited grandmother and her granddaughter, with their powder-blue car playing a central role in their story. Through this bond, the narrative explores themes of love, loss and friendship.
