Second UK Train Derailment in Two Days Strikes Essex Line

A passenger train derailed near Wickford station in Essex on Friday morning, marking the second derailment in the UK in as many days. British Transport Police confirmed that officers, paramedics, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene, approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of London, after reports that the rear carriages of the train had left the tracks.

Police said the affected carriages remained upright and that no injuries had been reported. National Rail stated that engineers were working to determine the cause of the incident, and warned that significant disruption to train services in the region was expected through Friday afternoon.

The Friday derailment comes less than 24 hours after a separate incident near Lewes in southern England, where a train travelling from London to Eastbourne left the tracks. In that case, three carriages overturned, leaving two people seriously injured and 18 others with minor injuries. All passengers were evacuated within roughly three hours, according to transport police.

The cause of both derailments is currently under investigation. Authorities have not indicated whether the two incidents are believed to be connected.
