SEMICON India 2026 Day 2: 25 Deals Across Chip Value Chain, Vaishnaw Flags Global Interest

Day 2 of SEMICON India 2026 saw 25 announcements and MoUs across the semiconductor value chain, with the government pointing to rising global participation and investment interest.

The second day of SEMICON India 2026 produced 25 announcements and collaborations spanning semiconductor manufacturing, materials, logistics, chip design, advanced packaging, power electronics and workforce development, as the government pointed to growing international engagement with India's chip programme.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said participation on the second day was higher than on the opening day, with strong business-to-business engagement, agreements concluded during business meetings and a positive response to conference sessions. Country roundtables drew more than 30 companies each from Japan and Singapore, alongside participation from South Korea and European countries including Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The event recorded close to 12,000 visitors on its first day, most of them industry participants, and features more than 600 exhibitors, of which around 300 are international.

Supply chain and materials

Several partnerships focused on localising inputs for chipmaking. Tata Electronics announced collaborations with INOX Air Products for high-purity gases, with Sumitomo Chemical for high-purity wet chemicals and advanced front-end materials, and with Kelington Engineering for gas distribution systems, high-purity piping and process tool hook-up, including training of local partners. A further tie-up with Enomoto covers joint research and localisation of lead-frame manufacturing for advanced packaging.

C-MET Pune and Hindalco Industries signed an MoU to scale up critical raw materials for the semiconductor ecosystem. The India Semiconductor Mission and Nippon Express Holdings will work together on semiconductor logistics infrastructure and supply-chain resilience, with the logistics firm providing expertise in warehousing, customs and related areas.

Power electronics and manufacturing

MeitY, the Ministry of Power and POWERGRID will collaborate on indigenising silicon carbide power modules for voltage source converter-based HVDC transmission, to be piloted at POWERGRID's 1,000 MW Pusauli project in Bihar.

L&T Semiconductor Technologies announced a series of partnerships covering power electronics for air conditioning and solar systems with Virtual Forest, silicon carbide modules for renewable energy and AI data centres with Newen Systems, insulated gate bipolar transistors for renewables with Fimer India, and IoT modules for smart meters with Capital Power Systems, beginning with an indigenous 4G communication module. Tata Electronics and L&T Semiconductor Technologies will explore manufacturing L&T's semiconductor products at Tata's fab and OSAT facilities, starting with consumer-grade camera modules.

Design, packaging and skilling

IndieSemiC and C-DAC launched an indigenous system-on-module, ISC-VEGA-SOM, combining C-DAC's VEGA Thejas32 processor with IndieSemiC's LoRa RF module under C-DAC's Industry Support Centre initiative. Kaynes Semicon announced an OSAT collaboration with IndieSemiC for qualification, assembly and testing of advanced packages including QFN and BGA, and customised system-in-package development. Kaynes also partnered with Microchip Technology and GridCrest Technologies on an India pathway for energy-metering systems-on-chip, and with United BC Team on a phased roadmap for advanced intralogistics and lights-off manufacturing.

NIELIT signed a set of MoUs covering design education with Siemens EDA, an ATMP workforce pipeline with Tata Electronics, semiconductor training with Singapore Polytechnic International, workforce development with IESA, and training and certification with SEMI University. NIELIT and SCL also launched an indigenous 0.8-micron open-source process design kit on the NIELIT eChipHub platform. Separately, SEMI and the India Deep Tech Alliance will develop the India Semiconductor Academy, an industry-led skilling platform, with partners including Cadence, CG Semi, Dixon Technologies, Micron Technology, Synopsys, 3D Glass Solutions, UC San Diego and IIT Kanpur. The alliance reported investments of USD 263 million across 56 Indian deep-tech companies.

Silvaco and C-DAC's ChipIN Centre will provide access to advanced TCAD tools for DLI-onboarded startups and MSMEs.

Sustainability focus

Vaishnaw highlighted water recycling in semiconductor fabs and closed-loop cooling in data centres, stressing the importance of resource-efficient technologies as both sectors expand. He also said semiconductor companies must compete globally on cost and quality, taking into account manufacturability, product life cycle and power consumption, and pointed to opportunities for Indian entrepreneurs.
