Modi to open SEMICON India 2026 as govt reviews chip milestones
PM Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 on September 17; the three-day event will showcase India's semiconductor value chain and review manufacturing progress.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India on September 17 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, opening a three-day national convention on the country's semiconductor and electronics ecosystem that runs through September 19.
The gathering is being organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the global industry body SEMI, under the theme "Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem." Its programme is built around industry engagement, policy direction and international partnerships.
More than 600 exhibitors, including 300 international firms, will occupy 15,000 square metres of exhibition space, with over 150 speakers scheduled to take part. The floor will host six country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions, along with dedicated sections for startups, student hackathons and workforce development.
The convention will also serve as a stocktaking moment for the Semicon India Programme. Twelve semiconductor projects have received Union government approval, and three units cleared under Semicon 1.0 have begun commercial production. The Union Cabinet has approved the next phase, Semicon 2.0, which is structured around six core pillars.
On the design side, electronic design automation tools have been extended to more than 400 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have secured approvals under the Design Linked Incentive scheme.
According to MeitY, the event will follow a comprehensive value-chain approach, tracing the journey from semiconductor materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, design, electronics and systems. A new "Sand to Silicon to Systems" Value Chain Experience is intended to give visitors an integrated view of the ecosystem and demonstrate India's expanding capabilities at different stages.
The Startup Pavilion will feature around 40 startups, and a Workforce Development Pavilion will offer a platform focused on talent, skills and careers in the microelectronics sector.
Organisers expect the event to give Indian and international companies a chance to explore partnerships, investment opportunities, technology collaborations and supply-chain linkages, reinforcing India's position as a global semiconductor partner.
Among the global and domestic enterprises taking part in the exhibition and strategic roundtables are ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Ebara, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest and Tokyo Electron, along with several other major industry players.
