SFI accuses police of vendetta after leaders produced in handcuffs
SFI criticises Kerala police for handcuffing two leaders in court, alleging violation of guidelines and pre-election targeting.
The Students' Federation of India (SFI) has criticised the police for bringing two of its leaders to the Vanchiyoor District Court in handcuffs on Friday, calling the action a violation of the State Police Chief's guidelines.
SFI central committee member S.K. Adarsh and district secretariat member Manesh were produced before the court in connection with cases registered over a recent march to the Secretariat. The two were handcuffed while being brought before the court.
The organisation questioned why the two student leaders needed to be handcuffed, arguing that the police action ran contrary to the standing instructions of the State Police Chief.
SFI state secretary P.S. Sanjeev alleged that the arrests formed part of a wider effort by the State government and the police to target the organisation. He linked the move to the approaching elections for college, university, polytechnic and school unions.
The SFI has demanded that the police explain the decision to handcuff its leaders during court production.
