Missing Shadnagar woman found dead near Mekaguda crossroads

A 48-year-old woman who had been missing from Shadnagar since September 22 was found dead on Sunday in a deserted spot near the Mekaguda crossroads, within the limits of the Nandigama police station.

The deceased has been identified as Kummari Mangamma, a resident of Venkataramana Colony who worked as housekeeping staff at a Lenskart outlet in Shadnagar. The location where her body was recovered lies roughly 12 kilometres from her home.

According to a lookout notice issued by the Shadnagar police, Mangamma left her house for work at about 10 a.m. on September 22. She was in the habit of returning home by around 1 p.m. When she did not come back, her family started looking for her. Repeated attempts to contact her failed because her mobile phone was switched off.

Her husband, Kummari Tirupati, filed a complaint with the Shadnagar police on September 23. A missing person case was registered and a search was launched.

The search ended on Sunday when her body was discovered near the Mekaguda crossroads. The Nandigama Circle Inspector and other police personnel reached the scene and took up an investigation.

Investigators are trying to piece together her movements after she left home, the last place she was seen and whether anyone was with her. Family members have said she was wearing about four tolas of gold jewellery when she went missing.

The cause of death and the circumstances in which she reached the deserted area have not yet been established. The police are waiting for the post-mortem report as part of the probe.
