Karnataka's Shakti scheme draws record women pilgrims to temples
The Shakti scheme has triggered a record turnout of women pilgrims at temples in Yadgir and Raichur districts during the holy month of Sharavana Masa.
The Karnataka government's Shakti scheme, which provides free bus travel to women, has resulted in a significant increase in the number of women pilgrims visiting temples during the ongoing Sharavana Masa. Several temples in the state have reported record footfall this year.
Among the temples witnessing this surge are the Sri Vishwaradhya temple in Abbetumkur and the Sri Mailaralingeshwar temple in Mailapur, both in Yadgir district. The Sri Sugureshwar temple in Devsugur (Shaktinagar) in Raichur district has also seen a notable rise in the number of women visitors.
The scheme, which allows women to travel for free on state-run buses, appears to have made it easier for devotees to undertake religious journeys. Temple authorities have noted the increased presence of women pilgrims, attributing it to the convenience offered by the transport initiative.
The trend highlights the scheme's impact beyond daily commuting, enabling greater participation in religious and cultural activities across the region.
