Shivamogga bans DJs, bike rallies during Ganesha festival
Shivamogga DC prohibits DJ sound systems, confetti blasts, and bike rallies for 30 days during Ganesha festival, citing public safety.
The Shivamogga district administration has imposed a 30-day ban on DJ sound systems, colour paper (confetti) blasting, and bike rallies during the upcoming Ganesha festival celebrations. The restrictions will be in force from September 14 to October 13.
Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti issued the order under the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, acting on a recommendation from the Superintendent of Police. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure, as such activities could pose a risk to children, the elderly, and patients in hospitals.
The Deputy Commissioner also urged the public to exercise caution during Ganesha idol immersion. He recalled a 2016 incident at Hadonahalli in Shivamogga taluk, where 12 people died after a coracle carrying an idol capsized.
To prevent a repeat, the administration has mandated that no more than three people travel in a coracle with an idol, and all occupants must wear life jackets. Expert swimmers must also be present at immersion sites. Violators of the order will face legal action, and the restrictions will remain until all immersion processions conclude.
