Human Rights Commission Sets Two-Month Deadline for Edappally Underpass

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered NHAI to finish the pedestrian underpass between Marottichodu and Edappally Market within two months.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the pedestrian underpass between Marottichodu and Edappally Market on NH 66 within two months.

The order was issued by SHRC Chairperson Alexander Thomas, who also sought a report from the NHAI project director and the District Police Chief, among other officials.

The Commission registered a suo motu case after news reports indicated that the foot overbridge and pedestrian lines at the location had become largely unusable because of construction work on the underpass. The underpass is being built near the upcoming flyover on the southern side of Edappally Junction.

A complaint filed by Alumkal George, convener of the Edappally-Thrikkakara NH Nadapatha Samrakshana Samithi, was also taken on record by the Commission.

The directive places the pedestrian facility's completion timeline under official scrutiny, with the Commission monitoring the response of the agencies concerned.
