Singer Shreya Ghoshal has released a new independent single titled 'Bairi Piya', brought out through Universal Music India.
The release carries a notable coincidence. Ghoshal's Bollywood playback career began in 2002, when she was 16, with the romantic duet 'Bairi Piya' from the film Devdas. More than two decades later, she has put out an independent song bearing the same name.
Reflecting on the track, the singer said independent music has long formed a significant part of her journey, giving her the room to explore songs and sounds beyond the spaces she encounters through playback work. She noted that each such project has offered something distinct, whether through experimenting with a sound, teaming up with another artist or taking a different approach to a song.
Ghoshal said she was drawn to the melody and simplicity of 'Bairi Piya' and enjoyed working in a softer, contemporary space. That freedom to keep discovering different sides of herself, she added, is what she values most about independent music.
