Shweta Tripathi to take debut production to TIFF under WIF India x Gold House scholarship

Actor-turned-producer Shweta Tripathi has been named the recipient of the WIF India x Gold House Scholarship, and will carry her first feature as a producer to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026.

At the festival, Tripathi will present 'Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan' at the Gold House Pitch, making her case to producers, financiers, executives and other industry professionals drawn from markets around the world.

The film is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sanjoy Nag and pairs Tripathi with actor Tillotama Shome. Described as a queer love story, it marks her shift from performing in front of the camera to backing a feature behind it.

Her producing work began in theatre. In 2025 she launched the theatre production company AllMyTea with 'Cock', a play by British playwright Mike Bartlett, staged during Pride Month.

Guneet Monga Kapoor, the Academy Award-winning producer who heads Sikhya Entertainment and founded WIF India, said the organisation is committed to creating access for women filmmakers at the moments when the right international connection can change the trajectory of a project. She noted that Tripathi has built an interesting transition from actor to producer, and that the scholarship allows her to develop that producing practice within a global industry ecosystem.

Rabia Chopra, Head of Programme and Strategy at WIF India, said the tie-up with Gold House was intended to generate opportunities for women filmmakers from India. She said that as this was the first collaboration with Gold House, the aim was for the pitch to have an impact beyond a single project and to open doors for more women filmmakers from the country.

Chopra also pointed to Tripathi being the first filmmaker from India to present at the Gold House Pitch, describing her as representing not only her film but also WIF India and a wider community of women filmmakers.

Tripathi said producing has given her a different way of working with stories. She said she has always believed in the power of stories, but that producing has allowed her to engage with them from a completely different place, adding that she deeply believes in 'Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan' and that taking it to TIFF is a chance to find the right international partners and conversations for the film.

The scholarship forms part of WIF India's broader effort to support women filmmakers through international platforms. The organisation previously sent a delegation to TIFF in 2025 and has partnered with programmes at the Cannes Producers Network and impACT Lab. Bata India is the Official Footwear Partner for the scholarship.
