Biker Sia Seeks Punishment, Not Just Arrests, in Gurugram Hit-and-Run Case

Biker Shivani Chauhan, known online as Sia, has said that the arrest of two men in connection with the Gurugram hit-and-run case is not sufficient, and that she wants strict punishment for those responsible. She was speaking after recording her statement before a magistrate in Gurugram and undergoing a medico-legal examination, following which she returned to her home in Kalkaji, New Delhi.

Kalyan Bainsla, who was driving the car, and his cousin Lavnish Bainsla have been arrested in Dausa, Rajasthan, where they had fled after the incident. Sia said she is not satisfied with the arrests alone. "Until there is punishment, such cases will keep happening," she said, adding that she worries the accused could secure bail.

Sia also demanded that two other people who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident be arrested and punished as well. She said that while two men have been caught, two more were present in the car when Kalyan Bainsla swerved and hit her on Sunday morning.

On the attempt-to-murder charge invoked in the FIR, she said she would not be satisfied until strict action is taken. She said she had explained the sequence of events in her statement to the magistrate, describing how she was hit and how the impact could have killed her. Besides the medico-legal examination, she said some of her injuries require X-ray examination, which will be done on Wednesday.

Asked about Kalyan Bainsla's claim that she was misrepresenting and misusing the incident to gain online traction, Sia dismissed the allegation. She said she had contested the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election in 2022, and that many people know her. She also questioned the background of the accused and their supporters, saying their statements reveal the kind of society they come from.

Her lawyer, Abhishek Chauhan, said the defence would oppose any bail plea and that the accused should not be released until the investigation is complete. He noted that the two men had fled to Rajasthan, where they were caught on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when Sia was riding her sports bike on Golf Course Road. According to footage from her action camera and those of fellow bikers, a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz rammed her Aprilia RS 457, throwing her off and sending her sliding. She has alleged that the car's occupants appeared drunk and had repeatedly harassed her, trying to stop her bike before suddenly crossing her path and hitting it. Her bike skidded for nearly 300 metres, she said, and her friends who were riding behind her tried to chase the men, who fled the spot.

Sia's father, Raushan Chauhan, said that while a person who commits a crime is responsible, those sitting with him should have stopped him. The episode was captured on camera and went viral after Sia posted it on Instagram.
