Electoral Roll Check in Haryana Leads to Emotional Reunion of Brothers After 35 Years

A routine administrative exercise under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls turned into an emotional family reunion in Haryana's Jind district, where two brothers met after 35 years of separation.

Sitaram, a differently abled man who has been living in Punjab for the past three and a half decades, travelled to his native village Manoharpur to obtain an old school certificate. The document was required as part of the SIR verification process.

Sitaram had left home as a child and settled in Punjab, where he worked at various places, including as a peon at a private school, before securing a Group-D government job.

At the Government Senior Secondary School in Manoharpur, where Sitaram had studied, staff began verifying his records. As part of the process, they contacted villagers to confirm his identity. The inquiries eventually reached his elder brother, Krishna.

Krishna, who had been searching for his younger brother for over three decades, was stunned to learn that Sitaram was at the school. He immediately contacted the Booth Level Officer to confirm the news before rushing to the school.

The brothers met face-to-face after 35 years, embracing each other and breaking down in tears. Sitaram touched his elder brother's feet, and the emotional moment moved the school staff and others present.

Sitaram is the fifth of six brothers. The siblings later left together on a scooter, ending their long separation in an unexpected manner.

Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Dr Ramesh Kumar described the incident as a memorable experience, noting that what began as an administrative verification ended in a heartwarming reunion.
