SIT to file chargesheet in Veeramani POCSO case next week

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the POCSO case against 'Gem Granites' Veeramani is expected to file its chargesheet before the Special Court for POCSO cases next week, police sources said.

The case was first registered in October 2025, after a child rights activist lodged a complaint. The activist had received a pen drive from an unidentified person containing a video that purportedly showed Veeramani sexually assaulting a minor girl.

Police initially filed a closure report, citing difficulties in identifying the girl. The Special POCSO Court rejected the closure report and directed further investigation.

During the reinvestigation, police arrested Veeramani, 84, along with Shanthi, 60, and her husband Mahendra Simhan, 63, who were described as abettors. Ganesh, who had worked as an assistant with Gem Granites for 23 years, was also arrested.

Investigators identified the victim in the video, and more victims subsequently came forward to lodge complaints.

The SIT was constituted under Additional Commissioner P.C. Thenmozhi on September 24 to conduct further investigation into the case and related matters. As part of its probe, the team recorded the survivors' statements before a judicial magistrate and collected statements from her parents, along with other documents and material relevant to the case.

The SIT is now completing the remaining procedural formalities before filing the chargesheet before the Special POCSO Court, sources added.
