Sitharaman to Visit Qatar for AIIB Annual Meeting, Bilateral Talks

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to Qatar from 27 to 29 September 2026, heading a delegation that includes officials from the Ministry of Finance.

The centrepiece of the visit is the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), scheduled to be held in Doha on 28 September 2026. Sitharaman will attend in her capacity as India's Governor to the AIIB. India is the bank's second-largest shareholder.

On the sidelines of the annual meeting, the Finance Minister is expected to hold bilateral discussions with the AIIB President as well as with her counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal.

The visit also includes engagements beyond the AIIB gathering. Sitharaman is expected to call on the leadership of the Government of Qatar and interact with Qatari business leaders and investors.

The AIIB Annual Meeting brings together delegations from member countries along with representatives of other international organisations. The multilateral development bank focuses on building sustainable infrastructure in Asia and promoting investment in infrastructure and other productive sectors, with the stated aims of fostering sustainable economic development, generating wealth and improving infrastructure connectivity.
