Sitharaman begins US visit with G20 finance talks, investor outreach

FM Sitharaman's US visit: G20 finance meetings, investor roundtables, and startup ecosystem talks in Chicago and New York.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has arrived in the United States for a six-day official visit, during which she will participate in G20 finance track meetings and hold discussions with business leaders and investors. The visit, which began with her arrival at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Thursday, follows a three-day trip to Canada where she attended the inaugural India-Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue.

In Chicago, the minister is scheduled to take part in a roundtable conference with prominent investors and engage with CEOs, presidents, and senior representatives from the private sector. The discussions are expected to centre on India's investment climate, its economic outlook, and avenues for deepening business and investment ties between India and the United States.

Ms. Sitharaman will also visit the Polsky Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago, where the focus will be on entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology commercialisation, with an eye on strengthening linkages with India's startup ecosystem. She is also slated to interact with members of the Indian community in the city.

A key component of the visit is her leadership of the Indian delegation at the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, scheduled for August 31 and September 1. The meeting, held under the US presidency, follows the Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting on August 29 and 30. India's participation in the G-20 Finance Track is seen as a platform to contribute to discussions on global economic growth, financial stability, and issues relevant to both emerging and advanced economies.

Following the G20 engagements, Ms. Sitharaman will travel to New York, where she is scheduled to hold an Investor Roundtable with CEOs and senior representatives of leading companies. She will also have one-on-one meetings with senior executives from the financial sector to discuss investment opportunities and ways to strengthen financial and institutional linkages. During her time in New York, she will participate in the bell-ringing ceremony at NASDAQ, an event that offers insights into technology-driven financial markets and the interface between technology and capital markets.

The visit is scheduled to conclude on September 2.
