Snoop Dogg to Host MTV VMAs as Show Returns to Los Angeles

The MTV Video Music Awards are heading back to the West Coast, with Snoop Dogg set to host the Sept. 27 ceremony live from Los Angeles.

The booking marks the first time since 2017 that the VMAs have been staged outside New York or New Jersey. The telecast is scheduled to air simultaneously from the Peacock Theater across CBS, MTV and Paramount+.

For Snoop Dogg, the role caps a long association with the awards. He is a 13-time VMAs nominee and has won three Moon Man trophies, making his debut on the show's stage in 1994. In 1999 he closed the ceremony alongside Dr. Dre and Eminem, and he later returned for a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. and a 2022 performance with Eminem.

"MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning," Snoop Dogg said in a statement. "Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV — they gave hip-hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that's a full-circle moment for me."

Madonna leads this year's nominations with 11, including video of the year for "Confessions II — The Film," artist of the year and song of the year for "Bring Your Love." Taylor Swift follows with nine nods, among them artist of the year.

Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter each hold seven nominations, while Bruno Mars, PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson have five apiece. Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard award.
