Sonu Sood, Manisha Koirala Reach Out to Nepal Flood Victims
Actors Sonu Sood and Manisha Koirala express solidarity with Nepal flood victims; India sends relief as death toll rises.
As Nepal grapples with the aftermath of devastating floods, Indian actors Sonu Sood and Manisha Koirala have voiced their support for the affected communities. Sood, known for his humanitarian efforts, took to X to announce relief plans, writing, "Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter and the strength to help you rebuild."
Koirala, who has deep ties to Nepal, shared images of the destruction and urged her followers to "Pray for Nepal." Her appeal comes as the country faces a mounting humanitarian crisis.
Official figures indicate at least 157 people have died, with nearly 400 others unaccounted for, including foreign nationals and security personnel. Nepal's Tourism Board reported that around 105 Indians are among those listed as missing after a flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River in the Rasuwa area, based on preliminary data from travel agencies.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office cited by local media put the number of missing at over 400, including 391 foreigners and 44 security personnel. The floods have also caused extensive infrastructure damage, destroying nine hydropower projects, nine bank branches, 19 bridges, and about 40 kilometres of highways across three districts.
In response, India has dispatched 10 tons of humanitarian aid to Kathmandu. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed on X that India's humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) and medical supplies have reached Nepal, with more aid being mobilised to support ongoing recovery efforts.
