South Africa Police Offer R400,000 Reward in Ekurhuleni Women's Deaths Probe

South African police have announced a reward of R400,000 for information that could lead to arrests in the deaths of eight women whose bodies were discovered at separate locations in Ekurhuleni, in the Gauteng province.

The announcement was made at a media briefing on Tuesday, where senior police and government officials outlined the response to the discoveries.

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane said the reward was intended to strengthen the investigation. She appealed to members of the public who may know of a missing family member to come forward, noting that identifying the victims quickly would help investigators pursue specific leads and resolve the cases.

"The sooner we identify these victims, the quicker it will assist us to follow specific leads as well as to crack these particular cases," Dimpane said.

Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia said a high-level multidisciplinary team, led by the deputy provincial commissioner, had been established to take charge of the investigation. He said no effort would be spared in bringing those responsible to account.

Police said that while they are not yet treating the cases as linked until investigations prove otherwise, they need all the assistance they can get. The discoveries have prompted a high-level probe and drawn attention to the country's high rates of femicide and violent crime.
