Prime Video pulls plug on Nicolas Cage's 'Spider-Noir' after one season

Prime Video and MGM+ have decided not to proceed with a second season of 'Spider-Noir', the live-action series headlined by Nicolas Cage. The show, which premiered as part of a multi-title agreement between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television, has been shelved after just one season.

The series was the second project ordered under that deal and the first to actually reach the screen. An earlier planned Spider-Man spinoff, 'Silk', was abandoned before production. Amazon had reportedly been waiting to gauge the performance of 'Spider-Noir' before committing to further titles.

Despite the cancellation, the broader collaboration between Amazon and Sony remains intact. Several projects are still in development, with one said to be close to receiving a series order, though its details have not been disclosed. Under the arrangement, shows debut on Amazon's MGM+ linear platform before streaming on Prime Video.

Based on the Marvel comic 'Spider-Man Noir', the series followed Ben Reilly, a weary private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to confront his past after a personal tragedy while serving as the city's only superhero. Alongside Cage, the cast included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson.
