Six booked for electrocuting two spotted deer in Shivamogga district
Sharavathi Wildlife Range officials booked six persons for electrocuting and killing two spotted deer in Nagavalli, Sagara taluk. Three arrested; three absconding.
Forest officials in Sagara taluk have registered a criminal case against six individuals for the alleged electrocution and killing of two spotted deer, a species protected under Schedule-II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
The action follows a search operation conducted on Wednesday on a plot of land owned by one of the accused in Nagavalli. During the raid, officials discovered that the animals had been electrocuted, after which their carcasses were butchered and the meat cooked on the premises. The remaining remains had been buried underground to conceal evidence.
Three of the accused — Banu, Shivu, and Mahesh, all residents of Nagavalli — have been arrested so far. Three others, identified as Shaji, Rama, and Sridhar, are currently absconding, according to the Forest Department.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Prasanna Krishna Patagar, Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife Division, Shivamogga), and Gururaj C.B., Assistant Conservator of Forests (Kargal sub-division). The raid was led by Range Forest Officer Dhananjaya Naik.
A case has been registered against all six accused under the relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and further investigation is underway.
