Sreedharan, Kerala CM Discuss High-Speed Rail and Connectivity Plans

Technocrat E. Sreedharan met Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan on Tuesday to discuss major connectivity and development projects for the state. The meeting centered on the proposed high-speed rail corridor linking Thiruvananthapuram with Kannur, an initiative originally suggested by Mr. Sreedharan.

While no official statement was released following the talks, the Chief Minister described the discussions as productive. In a social media post, he noted that the conversation focused on advancing key infrastructure projects to support sustainable, long-term growth.

Government sources indicated that this was a follow-up to earlier deliberations on the high-speed rail proposal. The project has faced scrutiny, with an expert committee previously flagging the DMRC-submitted plan as incomplete and recommending a thorough review of its technical, financial, and environmental viability.

The state government has not made any firm commitments yet. Given Kerala's fiscal constraints and concerns over the project's economic and ecological impact, officials are likely to proceed cautiously. However, the proposal has not been shelved entirely.
