Telangana Minister Demands KCR Apology for Abusing Dalit Speaker

Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Monday demanded that Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao tender an unconditional apology to Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar over the alleged use of abusive language by BRS MLCs. He warned that if Rao remained silent, it would be construed as his approval of the remarks.

Speaking to reporters after a stormy day in the Assembly, Sridhar Babu described the alleged abuse of the Dalit Speaker in 'filthy language' as unpardonable. He noted that the Speaker was reduced to tears in the House, and stressed that the issue was not just about a Dalit leader but concerned the dignity and self-respect of four crore people of Telangana.

The Minister also accused BRS leaders of grabbing the collars of police personnel on duty, attempting to create a ruckus. He pointed out that the BRS government itself had framed rules disallowing placards and objectionable content inside the House, and that K.T. Rama Rao was well aware of these rules.

Sridhar Babu said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sought a report on allegations by BRS women legislators of wrongful treatment by police, promising action if the claims are found true. He dismissed Rama Rao's threat of a no-confidence motion against the Speaker, asserting that the government would not be intimidated. He also clarified that Gate 3 of the Assembly falls under the Speaker's jurisdiction.
