Ravichandran to Open 416th Srirangapatna Dasara; Cauvery Aarati Begins Oct 11
Actor V. Ravichandran will inaugurate the 416th Srirangapatna Dasara on October 15, while the Chief Minister opens the six-day Cauvery Aarati at KRS on October 11.
The 416th edition of the Srirangapatna Dasara will be inaugurated by actor V. Ravichandran on October 15, with the festivities running until October 18. The announcement was made in Mandya on Saturday by district in-charge Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, who also unveiled the festival logo along with other dignitaries.
The Minister said the celebrations would be conducted in keeping with tradition even as the State grapples with drought conditions. There will be no scaling down of the programme, he said, describing the Dasara as a marker of the region's cultural heritage.
Ahead of the main events, a two-day Yuva Sambhrama will be held on October 12 and 13 to give local talent a stage, modelled on the Mysuru Dasara format.
Separately, the Cauvery Aarati at the KRS reservoir near Srirangapatna will begin on October 11 and run for six days, with the Chief Minister set to inaugurate it. The Minister noted that the aarati was introduced at KRS last year and stressed the importance of carrying forward such traditional programmes to sustain the State's cultural legacy.
The newly released logo places an ornate golden gopuram at the top, representing the historic Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, with the numeral "416th" displayed prominently beneath it. A dark-green circular motif at the centre shows a decorated elephant bearing the Jamboo Savari ambari, led by a mahout, framed by a red-and-gold border with royal-style golden pillars and floral elements on either side. The lower section carries a maroon nameplate with "Srirangapatna" in white and "Dasara" in large three-dimensional golden lettering. According to a press release, the gold, dark green and red palette reflects the town's cultural heritage, royal legacy and the grandeur of the festival.
Mandya MLA Ravi Ganiga, Srirangapatna MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, MLC Dinesh Gooligowda, Cauvery Neeravari Nigam managing director Mahesh, Mandya Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kumar and ZP CEO Nandini were present at the logo release.
