Tribal university in Telangana partners with IIT-Hyderabad, TISS for new courses
SSCTU Mulugu begins IIT-Hyderabad and TISS collaborative courses; 105+ students from nine states join.
The Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University (SSCTU) in Mulugu has begun offering collaborative academic programmes with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad, for the 2026-27 academic year.
More than 105 students from nine states have enrolled in the new courses. They were formally welcomed at an induction event held at the university's transit campus in Jakkaram.
Speaking online at the programme, IIT-H Director B.S. Murty assured full institutional support to SSCTU in strengthening teaching, learning, and infrastructure. He called the arrangement distinctive, noting that IIT-H faculty would directly teach students of another Central University.
SSCTU Vice-Chancellor Y.L. Srinivas described the tie-ups as key milestones for the young university. He said the partnerships would give students exposure to leading institutions, contemporary knowledge, and industry-oriented learning, while improving employability and readiness for evolving professional demands.
Srinivas also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the university's permanent campus in October. TISS Hyderabad Director Aseem Prakash urged students to pursue their academic journey with discipline, commitment, and continuous learning.
