Suresh Gopi denies promising AIIMS for Thrissur during campaign

Union Minister Suresh Gopi has once again clarified his position on the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Thrissur, stating that he never made any such promise during his election campaign. Responding to queries about his earlier remarks, he asserted, "I have not uttered even a single word about AIIMS in any election campaign. You can go through all my speeches."

Despite the denial, the Minister expressed solidarity with the people of Thrissur who have been demanding an AIIMS in the district. He noted that the project could materialise only if the Kerala government takes the necessary initiative.

Mr Gopi pointed out that land is available at Mannuthy and at the Police Academy for the proposed institute. He also mentioned that around 400 acres in Mattathur panchayat, where the lease period has expired, could be considered. He criticised the previous state government for showing reluctance on the matter and urged the present government not to repeat the same.

His remarks come amid ongoing public expectations and political debate over the establishment of the premier medical institution in the region.
