Suryapet Mega Kitchen to Serve 60,000 Students Daily, Target Set at 100 Days
A centralised community kitchen at Syedmujavarpet in Suryapet district is being readied to supply meals to nearly 60,000 students across about 1,029 government institutions within 100 days.
A large centralised community kitchen is coming up at Syedmujavarpet in Munagala mandal of Suryapet district, with authorities aiming to make it operational within 100 days. Once running, the facility is expected to prepare and supply nutritious meals to close to 60,000 students every day.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Hari Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF), while Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has contributed ₹9.6 crore towards it under its corporate social responsibility programme.
Designed as an ultra-modern facility, the kitchen will cater to around 1,029 government schools and junior colleges. Its operations will bring together cooking, quality control, packing and dispatch, backed by a planned distribution network. Hygiene, food safety, nutritional value and timely delivery are to form the core of the daily routine.
Suryapet District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar said efforts were on to operationalise the scheme within 100 days. Noting that civil works are involved, he said the immediate focus is on completing the structure and putting the necessary infrastructure in place.
The kitchen's reach will extend beyond Suryapet. Nalgonda District Collector B. Chandrasekhar said 131 government educational institutions in Nakrekal, Sali Gouraram, Kethepally and Vemulapally mandals would be served by the Syedmujavarpet facility. These institutions together have 7,972 students. He said the centralised system would help maintain uniform standards of hygiene, nutrition, food safety and quality, and that detailed route planning and interdepartmental coordination would be taken up to ensure reliable daily distribution to every institution.
Sri Satya Doura Chandra Dasa, president of HKMCF and regional president of the Akshaya Patra Foundation, said the organisation would do its best to reach rural students with nutritious food so that they can do well in their studies.
Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy is closely monitoring the project and coordinating with SCCL, HKMCF, the district administrations and the departments concerned. Thanking SCCL for its contribution, he said the initiative showed how public-sector organisations could create lasting community assets and directly improve children's health and educational participation.
