Swiss Police Arrest 43-Year-Old in Deadly Rave Shooting
Swiss police arrested a 43-year-old man after a rave shooting in Aarau killed a woman and wounded five.
Police in northern Switzerland have arrested a 43-year-old Swiss citizen in connection with a shooting at a rave that left one person dead and five others wounded over the weekend.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday, according to authorities in Aargau canton. Investigators believe the attack was carried out by a lone perpetrator and are still working to establish a possible motive.
The shooting took place early Sunday at a rave held on a horse racing track on the outskirts of Aarau, the regional capital. A 22-year-old woman died at the scene. Four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were hospitalised with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Police confirmed that all the victims are residents of Switzerland. Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni stated on Sunday that the woman killed and two other victims were Italian citizens.
Aargau police have announced they will hold a news conference on Wednesday and will not release further details until then.
Public shootings are uncommon in Switzerland, despite relatively widespread gun ownership in the Alpine nation. The rave was winding down at the time of the incident.
